Calling All Artists and Artisans
The Perkasie Olde Towne Association is seeking qualified artists and artisans for the last few spots available in its first-ever “Art on the Avenue” portion of the popular “Hot Ribs, Cool Jazz” event.
“This is a special opportunity for artists and artisans to display their work to a large, diverse audience,” said Cindy Smith, a member of the POTA Board of Directors. “Our primary goal is to offer a marketplace to showcase real artists and artisans, not just table space.”
Now in its third year, “Hot Ribs, Cool Jazz” is becoming of the most popular spring festivals in Upper Bucks. This year’s event, scheduled for May 17 from noon until 5 p.m., features the Eric Mintel Quartet, Mike Dugan and the Blues Mission, and the Pennridge High School Jazz Ensemble providing musical entertainment. Meanwhile, a hot-ribs grilling competition and sampling will give backyard barbequers a chance to show off their secret sauces and rubs. Cash prizes will be awarded to winners.
“Art on the Avenue” is the latest addition to the growing festival, which includes fun activities for youngsters. All work must be original and created by the displaying artist without the benefit of purchased, reusable molds, kits or commercial, mass-produced processes.
Only qualified applicants will be accepted, said Smith.
“A jury of arts professionals will determine which exhibitors are selected for the festival,” said Smith. “We are not looking for vendors who ‘buy and sell.’”
Four photographs (or jpeg images on a CD) of work, a photograph of the display to be used, and an invoice for raw materials must accompany the application.
As a token of appreciation, first-time participants can lock in their space cost ($40) for the next two years.
The application deadline is April 18. More details can be found by clicking on the “Hot Ribs, Cool Jazz” logo at perkasieoldetowne.org.
