“Hot Ribs Cool Jazz Festival” a Huge Success

Thanks to everyone who made this year’s “Hot Ribs Cool Jazz Festival” the biggest and best yet. With great music, a crowded field of hot ribs competitors and attractions for kids of all ages, there as a little something for everyone. Of course, beautiful weather didn’t hurt, either.

The Events Committee, headed by Cathy Weierbach and including Cindy Smith and Cheryl Gilbert, deserve most of the kudos for all the hard work they put into planning the day. Until you’ve done it, there’s no explaining the myriad of details that go into making such a production go off without a major hitch. Thanks, too, to Perkasie Borough Council and Manager Dan Olpere, the Public Works, Electricity and Police departments, and the fire police for being flexible in helping us adjust to ever changing situations.

We’ve already begun talking about how we can make next year’s event even bigger and better!

Here are some photos of the event. Enjoy!

Ragtops & Roadsters Aquires Restoration Business

Michael Engard, founder and president of Ragtops & Roadsters Inc. in Perkasie, PA is pleased to announce the acquisition of Pollock Auto Restoration in Pottstown, PA.  Most recently owned and managed by the late Ralph DeStefano, Pollock is the premier restorer of brass era and classic pre-war automobiles in eastern PA.

Engard purchased Pollock from DeStefano’s estate with the goals of enhancing the quality of both management and client relations for the company.

“We look forward to providing a top flight experience for our new and inherited clients,” says Engard. “I think they will see a renewed sense of dedication and professionalism as well as even better, more efficient service, workmanship, and most importantly, results.”

One of the keys to maintaining that level of quality through this transition and beyond is the dedication of current Pollock employees. “We are very excited that a number of the key people from the Pollock organization will stay on and continue their excellent work for this company under our new management.” Engard adds.

A landmark in Pottstown, Pollock Auto Restoration began life as Pollock Auto Showcase, an antique auto museum, in the 1950s. Founded by Bill Pollock, the museum morphed over time into a restoration facility for Classic and Brass Era vehicles as more and more clients sought the expertise of the staff after seeing the vehicles on display.

“Pollock has an exceptional reputation and a fascinating history.” says Engard, “Through this new strategic alliance that we are developing between Ragtops and Pollock, we can enhance the quality and reputation of both organizations by sharing our expertise, combining our resources, and providing the highest quality vehicles and services for all of our clients.” Pollock Auto Restoration is currently taking appointments for restoration and service work.

Pollock Auto Restoration is located at 70 S. Franklin Street in Pottstown, PA.  For more information call (610)-323-7108.  Their website is currently under construction.

Kudos to Sect for PR Savvy

Interesting wire story in the Philadelphia Inquirer the other day about the PR strategy used by Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Here’s the full story.

While I do not agree with their beliefs, it is interesting to note they handled this crisis the right way, making key people available for media interviews and granting unprecedented access to their property. I especially liked this quote: “What we were trying to do was inject a human element into what was happening here. Put names to faces and not just think of these people as being so different.”

I’m not sure if it will turn public opinion their way, but it sure can’t hurt.

Perfect strategy for CEOs and other company officials to remember in a crisis situation.

Good Way to Get Exposure For Your Business

The Good Time Motorvators, a local club of car enthusiasts that enjoy each others company, is looking for businsesses to contribute door prizes and items that go in the goodie bags it distributes at local events, including the “Lake Lenape Jamboree” on the last Sunday in May and the “Perkasie Under the Stars” on the third Saturday in August.

Funds raised by the club are contributed to charities such as Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Cleverest Way to Get Your News Release Published

Want the easiest way to get your news release noticed by editors and reporters?

Use one of the “est” words in your headline.

Oldest, newest, fastest, slowest, tallest, shortest, longest, fattest, skinniest, deepest, heaviest, lightest, thickest, thinest, smallest, largest, earliest, latest, messiest, neatest.

The “est” list goes on and one. First and last work pretty well, too.

Reporters and editors like to think in terms of extremes. They usually make for good stories. Use that to your advantage. Work one of those words into your next news release headline and I can practically guarantee you the easiest placement you’ve ever had.

Three Questions to Ask Before Starting Any Marketing Project

Before starting any comunications project, I ask my client to answer three key questions:

    Who is Your Audience?
    What is Your Message?
    What is your Goal?

Let’s take them one at a time.

Who is You Audience? It’s surprising how many clients think in broad terms when answering this question. They tend to think in geographic terms like “people hwo live in Bucks County” or “American citizens.” As a persuasive writer, those parameters are too vague for me. Usually, I ask my client to describe their typical client. That’s when they become much more specific and I get some sense of the audience they are trying to reach.

What Is Your Message? This sounds pretty simple but most clients have no clue about what their marketing message should be. They usually say things such as “Our prices are low.” or “Our products are great.” Again, far too fuzzy and indistguishable. A marketing message should be clear and consistent.

What is Your Goal? I push for realistic, tangible, measurable goals so we know if the marketing message is getting through to the appropriate audience. That way, we can adjust, if necessary. If we’re falling short, perhaps we fine tune the message or the narrow audience. If we reach the goals quickly, perhaps we have set the bar too low.

If you get good, solid answers to those three questions before embarking on a communications project, chances are the process will go smoothly and your client will be happy with the results.
